By
1 Minute Read

Jason Scott is a bright, dedicated student in 11th grade. Even with the difficulties of online learning, he has stayed engaged with his education. But like many students, he struggled with preparing for the SAT. When he took the test in October 2019, he scored in the 900’s. He scored similarly on a practice test that he took before starting tutoring. Plan of Action:

When he started lessons, his tutor immediately recognized that Jason was attentive and responsive in his learning. He clearly cared, and wanted to improve. But he had trouble staying engaged with reading materials, and struggled with the different approach to math problems that is required for the SAT, as opposed to the math schoolwork that he was used to. His tutor set out to explain various math and English concepts to him, highlighting the distinctions that are necessary to keep in mind for the SAT.

Results:

After a few months of tutoring, Jason’s tutor has observed a tremendous improvement in his ability to confidently work through difficult math problems. He also began reading through passages more carefully (resulting in better comprehension), while still keeping an eye on the time. His understanding of each SAT section’s individual pacing has also improved. He’s put a great amount of work in, both during lessons and in between. His tutor has explained concepts in-depth during their lessons, as well as assigning homework for him to keep developing his knowledge on his own time.

Outlook:

Jason is preparing to retake the SAT in March of 2021. Leading up to it, he will continue to hone his skills with the help of his tutor. He has put a great deal of hard work into his preparation, and we have no doubt that his new scores will reflect that.
