Case Study #2 - How private tutoring helped 5th grade Chloe

Written by Melanie McGinniss | Dec 17, 2020 3:09:04 AM

Chloe Webb had always been a gifted student, but her family noticed that she wasn’t getting as much out of school as they would have hoped especially with online distance learning due to COVID-19 school closures. Like so many students, fifth grader Chloe struggled adapting to online classes, and found it difficult to retain information. Her family knew that she needed additional support in order to thrive.

Plan of Action:

When she started math tutoring, Chloe was engaged with the material and eager to learn, right off the bat. But she struggled to fully understand and utilize the information she was learning. Her natural enthusiasm as a student led her to ask the tutor questions, and seek explanations that would make sense to her personally. She picked up on concepts quickly when her tutor expanded on them in a way that was specific to Chloe’s learning style.

Results:

After a few weeks of tutoring, her tutor was already noticing great improvement in Chloe’s ability to understand topics quickly, and retain the information she was learning. She was able to perform pre-algebra operations in her math and building up the confidence to overcome challenging word problems. In their lessons, her tutor explained concepts in a way that made math more fun for her, supporting the enthusiasm that Chloe already possessed.

Outlook:

Chloe is continuing to develop her math skills over time, with her tutor providing consistent support as new topics are introduced in Chloe’s classes. Her tutor ensures that Chloe receives the assurance and support she needs in order to live up to her full potential as a student.
